SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of making your Website and Web Pages more attractive and easily read and indexed for the major Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN/BING.
The reason why we want to optimize our Website is so that our Website will rank high in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). For example if your Website is about “dog walking” you undoubtedly want to sell your dog walking services to the public and if you optimize your dog walking Website better than your competitors that you can rank higher than them in Google whenever someone types in “dog walking”. If your Website is not optimized than you can assume that many people will not find your Website and be able to partake in your services.
It’s similar to having a brick and mortar storefront and having the opportunity to put your storefront on one of the busiest streets in the business district of a major city. You know as a business owner that if you do that you have the potential of having hundreds of people walk past your store every single day (not including major holidays, events, etc) and doing business with you.
Online it’s the same idea when you perform SEO on your Website. Instead of paying to get your storefront on Madison avenue in New York you pay someone to put you in front of hundreds or thousands of people in Google. It’s not automatic by no means and it takes time depending on the level of competition but this is a very worthwhile endeavor.
